Meet Jay
A native Tennessean, I had opportunities to study abroad in France as an undergraduate and as a law student. After completing my undergraduate studies, I was awarded a traveling fellowship to support a year-long, self-designed program of study and travel abroad which enabled me to visit over twenty countries throughout Asia and Europe. For many years, I worked as a finance attorney for two international law firms, an international bank, and two major international airlines specializing in aircraft purchasing and finance. I have lived in Nashville, New York, Dallas, and Atlanta and currently live near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A passionate student of language, I speak French and some German and continue to study both. I love to travel off the beaten path or find a unique approach to a popular destination. I started Left Bank Travel to share my connections around the world, my experience gained from years of traveling and working in the airline industry, and my insider tips. When I am home, I am a college football and basketball fanatic.
Philanthropy
I am fortunate to have had many opportunities to travel. My studies abroad would not have been possible without the support of family and friends and the generosity of donors to my university study abroad program and my traveling fellowship. Not only does travel unite us and make the world a better place, when you travel with Left Bank Travel a portion of the consulting fees will be donated to the following charities.
Founded in 1973, Lambda Legal is the oldest and largest national legal organization whose mission is to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education, and public policy work. Lambda Legal is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, does not charge its clients for legal representation or advocacy, and receives no government funding. Lambda Legal depends on contributions from supporters around the country.
Cambodia Academy is a 501(c)(3) educational charity operating a school in rural Cambodia for more than 300 students in grades 1 through 9. During a trip to Cambodia in 2018, my husband, Rich, and I were overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received. We learned about the Cambodia Academy from a friend, and in Siem Reap, we met people associated with the school and were inspired by their mission. Many children in Cambodia do not have access to nearby schools and often drop out due to economic pressures. Their parents may not be able to get them to a school or they may not be able to afford the uniform expenses and other costs required by public schools. The scholarships that donors to the Cambodia Academy provide take care of everything – tuition, uniforms, food, and transportation.
